Chikkadpally residents demand shifting of pollution causing unit
Chikkadpally: Azamabad Industry Area Parirakshana Samithi president C Kumar, a TRS party leader, demanded that the industrial centre, which melts ornaments made of gold located, in the residential area of Chikkadpally street number 10 be shifted from the residential area.
Speaking at a press meet at Chikkadpally, Ramnagar division, he said that this pollution causing industry is being run illegally by one Sampath at a rented house (House no 1-8-18-2) which belongs to a local BJP leader Parthasarathi. Due to hazardous chemicals that are being used in the processing of gold, the locals have been experiencing health issues, he claimed. He said that a fire accident occurred at the centre in the past (on July 17, 2017) due to the use of hazardous chemicals and the pollution control board authorities seized it with the help of police.
However, the centre had been reopened with the help of local political leaders and is being run illegally since then, he claimed. Locals fear that any fire accident again at the centre may result in loss of lives. They also want police to enquire about the source from where gold is brought.
He said that a written complaint has already been given to Pollution Control Board in this regard. When the organiser of the centre was contacted on the issue, he replied that he is running the centre as per the rules and has all the required permissions to run the centre. The issue needs to be inquired on an urgent basis by the authorities concerned.
