It’s raining candidates in Warangal Congress

Update: 2018-09-23 05:30 IST

Warangal: The Warangal East seat appears to be most sought-after not just for the ruling TRS aspirants but also for the Congress with quite a few of its leaders staking their claim for the ticket.

Apparently, Warangal East constituency has become a cynosure of all eyes after the TRS denied ticket to the sitting TRS MLA Konda Surekha in its first list. Since then, a lot of aspirants of that party jumped into the fray to secure the ticket. The Congress is no exception with as many as 30 of its leaders aspiring to contest the ensuing elections from the East constituency.

In all, 116 leaders applied for the 12 seats in the erstwhile Warangal district. On the other hand, Wardhannapet and Station Ghanpur constituencies, both reserved for Scheduled Castes, are also in for huge demand with 18 and 14 applicants vying for tickets respectively.

The race for Mahabubabad (ST) seat is also hot with as many as 10 leaders aspiring for the ticket. Next in line is Warangal West seat with seven aspirants. While leaders six apiece are seeking the ticket of Palakurthy and Parkal seats, there are four leaders each vying for Jangaon and Mulug tickets.

Surprisingly, there is a little competition for Narsampet, Bhupalpally and Dornakal seats. These constituencies have two aspirants each. Following huge response for tickets, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy directed the District Congress Committee president Naini Rajender Reddy to shortlist the aspirants to five each for constituency. It’s learnt that the list will be sent to leadership by Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the aspirants appeared to be jittery over their prospects of getting ticket with the news doing rounds that the party leadership was conducting another survey to determine the winnability of candidates. The TPCC which is to receive survey report in a couple of days, is to discuss with the screening committee, it’s learnt.
