Nigerians under City police scanner: Anjani Kumar
Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Friday said that cocaine and opium will not be allowed in the city at any cost. He said to make Hyderabad drug free city special drives were being conducted for the past three years. During the drives, 34 Nigerians were arrested for various crimes.
He said in the entire illegal activity of cocaine, opium consumption, trading and business, Nigerian students’ involvement was found in the investigation. Since 2010, 61 Nigerians were arrested by the police. And in the last four years, 34 Nigerian nationals were arrested in drug cases. In 2014 (6), in 2015 (5), in 2016 (12), in 2017 (8) and in 2018 till September (3) were arrested in different cases.
He said acting on a tip off that a drug dealing was going on, Task Force police raided the house of Nigerians in Sri Sai Apartments on Thursday wee hours and nabbed three accused. They seized 20 grams cocaine and seven passports from them. The three arrested accused were brought to the police station. But when police found seven passports, they again raided the house for the second time after few hours.
Then the other accused by name Patrick Ojana (28) who was there in the house tried to escape from the police. The accused jumped through sewerage pipe from the multi-storey building but slipped and fell. Immediately the accused was shifted to Osmania General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Commissioner Anjani Kumar said Patrick Ojana had similar drug cases registered against him earlier by the Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills police in 2017 where 15 grams cocaine was seized from him.
The Commissioner appealed to the public to be more vigilant on this sort of illegal activities and movement of Nigerians and give a call to the public to inform and share the information to police about the Nigerians and others who involve in such illegal activities.
