Bathukamma fest to propagate Telangana culture

Tourism and Cultural secretary Burra Venkatesam on Thursday said that the greatness of Telangana culture and lifestyle will be showcased to the world during the Bathukamma festivities in the city.  Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, Burra Venkatesam said this year the government is spending Rs 20 crore to celebrate the floral festival and each district of Telangana sanctioned Rs 15 lakh funds. He added that Rs 2 crore would be spent abroad to celebrate the festival and to show its uniqueness to the world. He urged people to participate in the festival.

He further added, “First time in the State, we conducted Bathukamma festival for girls aged up to 12 years from October 6 to 8. This year, the festivities will be conducted till October 17. More than 75 women from 25 countries across the world would be participate in the festivities. More than 50 people will participate in the festivities by using paramotoring on October 17. About 100 women indulge in the celebrations at Hussain Sagar. A group of 9 women already started celebrating the festivities in 9 districts in a 9-day tour. A special food festival set up with more than 100 stalls at People’s Plaza,”  

A special Bathukamma programme will be held for 1200 blind women and 500 specially challenged people at Hitex, he added. During the press meet, the poster launch was held. Mamidi Harikrishna, Director, Department of Language and Culture, Government of Telangana said that various documentary films on Bathukamma will be screened in a programme ‘Filmostav’ at Ravindra Bharathi till October 16. Events like laser show, fireworks and cultural carnival will be held at Ravindra Bharathi premises, he added.
