Kuchipudi all the way

Shilparamam Arts, Crafts and Cultural Society along with Natyamitram organised the ‘Balamitram’ dance festival by students aged below 11 years from all over the city on its premises over the weekend. The cultural events began with rendering Kuhcipudi dance by students of Nishumbita Natya Jnanapeet, headed by Guru Munukuntla Sambasiva. The group performed for items like ‘Okaparikokapari’ and more and enthralled the audience.

Following the Nishumbita Natya Jnanapeet Group’s performance, students of Dr Hima Bindu Kanoj rendered various items in Kuchipudi. The group mesmerised the audience by showcasing their great dancing skills in items like Jatiswaram: It comprises of jatis and swaras, as the name suggests. This is nritta based and is generally taught to the students who just finish their fundamental training and Tarangam: This describes the childhood activities of Lord Krishna. As the child of Nanda, the darling of the cowherds, one who loves butter, Lord Krishna is described as the one who bestows boons on his devotees and one who is worshipped by Narada and all rishis. 
         
It was a treat to watch for the audience who witnessed the flawless Kuchipudi recitals by the students of Girija Kishore from Guru Saranya Dance and Music Academy. The group performed for items like Srimannarayana: A devotional piece penned by the saint poet Tallapaka Annamacharya, who is praising the Lord by seeking refuge at his lotus feet. Towards the end, students of Natyanjali School of Dance headed by Anusha Srinivas showcased their great dancing skills by performing various Kuchipudi items like Brahmanjali: A traditional Kuchipudi item praises Lord Shiva as the creator of the Tandava, and Goddess Parvati as the graceful one.
