Reddys rule the roost in Assembly
Hyderabad: Reddy caste dominated others when it came to the highest number of winning MLAs in Telangana elections. Of the total strength of 119 MLAs, 40 belong to this community. While 31 of them won on TRS ticket, the remaining 9 were from Congress.
The next highest in the list were BCs. A total of 22 BC MLAs would be entering the Telangana Assembly this time. The TRS contributed in bulk with 18 BC MLAs while Congress winning list had only two BC MLAs.
Among BC MLAs, five belong to Yadav caste, four from Goud while six are from Munnuru Kapus. Third in the list are SCs, with 19 Dalit MLAs securing victories. The TRS contributed 15 of them, while nine from Madiga the other six are from Mala.
From ST quota, 12 legislators got elected. Velama, the caste to which TRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao belongs, contributed 10 MLAs. Next in the list are Muslims with eight MLAs.Kamma, a dominant caste in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh politics, also made its presence in Telangana. Five MLAs who got elected this time belong to this caste.
While the TRS fielded six candidates from Kamma caste background, five of them won. Whereas TDP gave party tickets to three Kammas, but all of them were on the losing side. From Brahmins, two MLAs got elected while one Vysya MLA made up the 119 MLAs list. Caste equations in 2018 elections and 2014 elections were almost the same. In 2014, 42 Reddy MLAs were elected to the assembly, while from BCs 20 MLAs were elected.
