BJP accepts peoples verdict

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit president Dr K Laxman said that the party accepts the peoples' verdict in the recently concluded State Assembly elections. Addressing media here on Saturday, Laxman said that the BJP is not a family-ruled party, hence, it will take collective responsibility for the defeat. The BJP had started its journey with just two parliament seats, Laxman added.

“Whether we get two seats or 200, win or lose elections the party will not stop working for the people and remain committed to its principles,” he added. He asked the party cadre in the State not to get demoralised with the defeat in the Assembly elections and asked them to work with renewed vigour to bring back Narendra Modi as Prime Minister again in 2019 general elections.

For this, Laxman said party chief Amit Shah will hold a cluster-wise review meeting covering all the parliamentary segments in the State during his visit to the State on December 24. That apart, the two-day national council meetings of the party slated on January 11 and 12 at Delhi, would be attended by party chief Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will review the party strategy in Telangana for 2019 general elections.

The BJP leader said that the party will study and analyse how tens and thousands of votes in the BJP influential areas have gone missing from the electoral rolls. Terming that the Election Commission (EC) has failed in properly conducting the election, he said, several of the party contestants have expressed doubts over the technical functioning of the EVMs during the polls. “We will analyse and if needed we will form a committee to look into the issue. Our findings will be informed to the national party,” he said.

Terming that the TRS bounced back to power raiding high on the Telangana sentiment, he said, “even the BJP voters also turned to the TRS due to the Telangana sentiment overriding all other electoral factors.” However, the party reiterated its charges against the TRS government.

Referring to Chief Minister and TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao tipping his son K T Rama Rao as the party’s working president, Laxman said that the party will wait for some more time, as the “Kumara Pattabhishekam” (coronation of the son) has taken place just now. However, if the TRS failed to deliver on its promises made to the people, the BJP will continue to fight on those issues for the sake of people, he added. He also criticised the Congress and opposition parties for making baseless charges of corruption against Modi’s government at the centre.
