Pedestrians resort to shortcuts, get hurt

L B Nagar: Following reduction in the size of the Nagole-Alkapuri central meridian (dividers), which links Nagole Musi Bridge to LB Nagar Ring Road, the pedestrians are facing a tough time while crossing the road because of the blacktopping vehicles. They are also facing hardships during nights because of the mushrooming of trees planted, as part of the beautification of the median. Some pedestrians speaking to The Hans India blamed the lethargy and lack of supervision of the officials as the reason for the accidents.

In view of the problems faced by the pedestrians, the Rachakonda Police Commissioner directed officials to control traffic. This has led to introduction of U-turn on the Nagole-LB Nagar Main Road and raising the heights of dividers from Alkapuri X Roads to Kamineni Hospital. Traffic police have arranged cement blocks temporarily at places where the dividers’ size has been reduced. Some people have got injured while attempting to cross the dividers. As a result, they are resorting to shortcuts by crossing at places where the height is low. The pedestrians say that officials need to pay attention urgently to the reduced height of dividers.

Deputy Commissioner of Traffic at Rachakonda Divyacharan Rao told THI that steps are being taken to prevent hardships, including a proposal to the highway officials to increase the height of the median. He said there is a need to raise the median by three feet. Rao advised the pedestrians to use the U-turn facility. He appealed to them to follow traffic rules to ensure safe travel.
