Efforts are on to survive no-confidence vote

Update: 2019-01-18 07:56 IST

Korutla: The no-confidence motion moved by the leaders of the ruling TRS and Opposition parties against Chairman Sheelam Venugopal in Korutla Municipal Corporation had generated enough heat ahead of panchayat polls in Jagtial district.

It should be noted that after receiving the proposals of no-trust motion from the councillors of Municipal Corporation, District Collector Dr A Sharath had appointed the Joint Collector as the Special Election Officer for conducting a special meeting on Saturday (January 19) to test the no-confidence.

Meanwhile, the groups of both Chairman and Opposition have been busy conducting camps to prove their strength so as to grab the chairman post.

There are 30 councillors in Korutla Municipal Corporation. Of this, 21 members belong to the TRS, five of MIM, four of Congress and one from BJP.
S Venugopal needs the support of at least 12 councillors to retain the chairman post and needs 22 councillors to vote for him and against the existing chairman to win the no-confidence motion, moved against him by a group.

So, the group that moved the no-trust motion are taking all steps to prevent its members from shifting their loyalties towards S Venugopal, who is also not leaving any chance to retain his position by luring the members of the opposition group.

Meanwhile, a few TRS councillors are using their influence to grab the chairman post, if S Venugopal loses the no-confidence motion, moved against him.

It is be noted here that the term of Municipal Corporations is going to end very soon, and elections would be held thereafter. Hence some councillors are preparing ground in the name of no-confidence motion, either by supporting the Chairman group or the opposition group, which moved the no-trust motion.
