OU to derive benefit under universities of eminence scheme
Hyderabad: Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof S Ramachandram has said that the university will get Rs 1000 crore funding as it became eligible to apply under the UGC’s Universities for Eminence Scheme. He said that quantum would be spent under Research and Development activities of the university.
Felicitating the retired professors of the university from arts, social sciences, commerce, law and management and education departments at a function held at OU Arts College here on Thursday, he recalled the valuable services rendered by the retired professors in the university growth.
Research activities of the universities are progressing, he said that the UPE project of the university has been extended further. Also, he told the gathering that the PURSE project’s second phase has been sanctioned to the university. On account of good performance of the OU in various categories, it received A plus grade from the NAAC. The OU ranked 38 among institutions of national repute and 23 among the universities, he said.
Using the funds to be sanctioned to OU under the Universities for Eminence scheme, he said he would groom the OU to be a world-class university. Along with the VC, OU Registrar Prof Ch Gopal Reddy, OSD Prof T Krishna Rao, centenary celebrations special officer Prof H Venkateswarlu and Arts College principal Prof D Ravinder presented shawls to former professors of the university and felicitated them. The felicitated included 90-year-old retired professor, who retired thirty years ago.
