TDP chief hails Supreme Court decision on rooting out corruption in public life

Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu wanted the government to take initiative in clipping the wings of the people thriving in politics cashing in on the big brazen money in circulation. Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision with regard to the corruption in public life, he said that courts had been reacting on all the major scams that have been eating the vitals of the nation's economy. Whether it was Coalgate or the Obulapuram mining scam involving crores of money, the Supreme Court had been strongly responding.

He said that the Apex Court had been advocating for autonomy of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Institutions such as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) were under attack and their autonomous status was under question from various quarters. The time was ripe for making some more reforms to facilitate such institutions to function independently.

"I have been stressing for electoral reforms as the electronic voting machines (EVMs) are not completely reliable. The use of money and distribution of liquor during polls has to be eradicated. Elections should be held in free and fair atmosphere," he added.

Reforms facilitate speedy disposal of cases in the courts. "I have been consistently campaigning for banning of circulation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and encourage total financial transaction through the banks by extending bank accounts to all sections of people in the villages and towns alike. Black money put into circulation was promotion by mafia in every sphere and it should be curtailed," said Naidu.
