Alair MLA Gongidi Sunitha kicks up a storm with comments on encounter

Hyderabad: At a time when the NHRC is probing the encounter of four accused in the Disha rape and murder case in Hyderabad, the government whip in Assembly and Alair MLA Gongidi Sunitha triggered political controversy by stating that the encounter was painful and regrettable.

The TRS MLA was speaking at a programme of distribution of cheques to various beneficiaries at her constituency in Alair in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district on Tuesday.

While expressing grief over rape and murder of Disha, Sunitha said that the incident of encounter of four youth was painful.

"We have seen the incident of Disha where there was injustice and it was painful, but four accused died recently which was also painful. Just thinking about how the families of the four accused had to face the news is more painful," Sunitha said.

The comments of MLA Sunitha have come at a time when the citizens were appreciating the police action against the four accused. The comments of MLA Sunitha expressing pain on the encounter have gone viral in social media and have become the talk of the town.

The MLA said that the information during an emergency may not reach the police in minutes. The police may not reach within three or five minutes even if the information reaches in minutes, opined Sunitha.

This is not the first time the MLA has gone emotional. Earlier, during a discussion on kidney patients in the Assembly, the Alair MLA got emotional and recalled how a person from her constituency and his father suffered with kidney diseases.
