Hyderabad: In order to meet the ever-rising demand for power in the state, the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TS Genco) is getting ready to link 270 MW power plant of Bhadrachalam Thermal Power Station (BTPS) to the grid during first week of September.

This would help the power utility to produce 5 million units of additional power. Project Director Genco Sachidandam told The Hans India that the plant was ready for commissioning. He said that the four units of BTPS works would be completed by December.

He said that works of the Yadadri Power Station at Damaracherla have been put on fast track it will take two-and-a- half years to commission the project.

The state has been experiencing heavy demand for power during the past two years. The peak demand crossed 11,600 MW on August 29. It is about 3,000 MW more than last year.

The state consumed about 241 MU of power on August 29. The Genco was able to supply 56 MU from thermal power units. The Transmission Corporation bought 1,200 MW of power from the power exchange, which is equal to 24 MU.

The demand for power is rising due to round-the-clock supply of power to the agriculture sector and launch of the Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation project. With good rains in the first week of August, the farmers have stepped the farm works leading to increased demand for power in agriculture sector.

Apart from the thermal stations of Genco, Singareni and Central Power Generation stations have been supplying power to the state.
