Committees as important as Legislatures: Speaker
Hyderabad: Speaker P Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday said that the Committees formed by the Assembly were as important as the legislatures.
The speaker was speaking in the first meeting of the Public Undertakings Committee (PUC) held in the Assembly on Wednesday. Srinivas Reddy said that committees have duties to monitor the functioning of the public undertakings in the State.
A committee would examine the report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on government undertakings, he said. The committee has to see whether the public undertakings are functioning well and whether they are following financial discipline etc.
The Speaker said apart from the audit report, the committee can select a public undertaking and examine its functioning and seek report from the concerned officials. The committee would also make sure the recommendations submitted to the House are implemented and also sent to concerned departments.
He asked the members to attend all the meetings of the committee. Committee Chairman A Jeevan Reddy, Council Chairman G Sukhender Reddy, MLAs K Vidyasagar Rao, T Prakash Goud, V M Abraham, B Shankar Naik, D Manohar Reddy, N Bhaskar Rao, Syed Ahmed Pasha Khadri, K Chander, MLC N Laxman, P Satish Kumar, Farooq Hussain and others were also present.
