Congress condemns defamatory attack on Chevella candidate

Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Spokesperson Dr. Dasoju Sravan has strongly condemned the malicious rumours spread by a section of media, at the behest of ruling TRS, against Congress party's Chevella Parliamentary constituency candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy.

He was speaking to media persons after a delegation comprising of Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, G. Niranjan, M. Kondanda Reddy and himself submitted a memorandum to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Rajath Kumar on Wednesday.

Sravan said that a section of media has carried out a fake news items linking Vishweshwar Reddy with an irrelevant case of seizure of cash. Without any proof or evidence, the news channels, at the instance of police and ruling TRS party, ran a flash news about seizure of Rs. 15 crore. "This is highly intolerable. On the directions of some TRS leaders, a few police officials have given the wrong feed of information to a few reporters triggering spread of fake news to tarnish the image of Vishweshwar Reddy. The Election Commission should take a serious note and ensure that stern action is taken against all those involved in the act," he demanded.

Meanwhile, Vishweshwar Reddy, in his petition to the CEO, condemned the deliberate attempt to defame him. "I am filing a defamation suit straightaway but in the interim would request the Election Commission to ensure that nobody tarnishes my image a day before polling through falsehood and fabrication," he said.

Vishweshwar Reddy also clarified that the person who name was used in the news item has worked with him on patents and other legal cases. "They claim he was related to me which is not true. He had a family wedding and was found in a mall with his children and wife. He was carrying cash (less than 10 lakh) to my knowledge for which he had declared sources," he said.

Sravan alleged that the ruling TRS has stooped down to the lowest level and has been targeting the Congress candidates only due to the fear of a humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha elections.
