Nirmal: Develop green cover to protect the environment as a social responsibility, District Collector M Prashanthi appealed the people.

As part of the Green India Challenge initiative of TRS Rajya Sabha MP Joginapalli Santosh Kumar, Collector Prashanthi accepted the challenge from Jagtial Collector Dr A Sharath and planted three saplings on the premises of the Collectorate in Nirmal on Tuesday.

Later, she threw the green challenge to Adilabad District Collector D Divya, Nirmal Zilla Parishad Chairperson Koripelli Vijayalakshmi and Khanapur MLA Rekha Naik to plant three saplings each as part of Green India.

Later speaking with the media, Prashanthi said Harith Haram and Green India challenge will help to increase green cover and to protect future generations. Due to high pollution, there are no timely rains, temperatures are raising and mountains are melting, she stated. To prevent pollution, everyone should plant at least three saplings each to protect the environment and she appealed to protect the planted saplings and water them regularly.

Stating that 'If we protect nature, it will protect us', the Collector informed that 1.10 crore saplings have been planted as part of Haritha Haram drive in the district during 2018-19 and 100 per cent target has been achieved.

Green India Challenge coordinator Purushotham, district public relations officer Abdul Kaleem, Collector office AO Kareem, TSS artistes Nagaraju, Sudarshan, Raghu, Collector office staff and others were present.
