DRI sleuths recover gold in paste form at RGIA

Hyderabad: The officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized gold worth Rs 27.87 lakh smuggled in paste form at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from a passenger arrived by a flight from Mumbai on Friday.

According to DRI officials, based on specific intelligence, they intercepted a passenger, who arrived by Air India Flight No AI 50 from Mumbai to Hyderabad.

On inquiry, he revealed that he was entrusted with the job of carrying gold in paste form which was given to him by one of his friends in Mumbai.

On examination, the officials found that gold in paste form was wrapped with black colour adhesive tape into 3 elliptical shaped balls and concealed them in his rectum concealment.

The gold in paste form weighing 832 grams which after extract weighed about 724 grams gold content valued at Rs 27.87 lakh.

On inquiry, the passenger admitted that the gold was smuggled without any documents.

By seizing the smuggled gold under Customs Act, 1962, they are inquiring the arrested passenger.
