OCP 5 opposition committee members halting the works at the fifth open cast mine in Godavarikhani on Monday

Godavarikhani: The management of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and the State government were trying to transform industrial region as burial ground and playing with the lives of people by opening 5th Open Cast Mine, alleged OCP-5 Opposition Committee leader Maddela Dinesh and 10th division corporator Peddapalli Tejaswani Prakash.

The representatives of OCP-5 opposition committee on Monday halted the works in the 5th OCP, which were taken up by the SCCL management.

They alleged that the 5th OCP was spread over 2,700 hectares out of 1,100 hectares present in about 10 divisions in Ramagundam area. After works were started in OCP with heavy machinery, cracks have appeared on the wall of houses that were very near to the OCP. Who are responsible if the houses collapse and people dies, they questioned.

'Already there is a lot of pollution in the region and nobody is taking any care to prevent it. Both air and water were polluted and the SCCL management was playing with the lives of innocent people living in this region,' they criticised.

Without permission to start works in 5th OCP, the SCCL management along with the State government started works by giving works contract to big contractors and trying to throw the people out of this region. The General Manager must visit the area and must see the living condition of the people and their problems after the works started in 5th OCP, the representatives demanded.

Later, the members of the OCP 5 opposition committee submitted a representation to the SCCL officials.
