Government to review land allotments to firms, individuals in combined State
Hyderabad: Sports and Youth Affairs Minister V Srinivas Goud has stated that his department will review land allotments made to firms and individuals in the combined state, who took crores worth of premium government lands on the pretext of establishing golf courts and other sporting activities, but did not start them at all.
He also said that Uppal stadium was built on government-owned land, but it is the HCA (Hyderabad Cricket Association) that calls the shots and has complete authority and not the state government.
He was responding to Andhole MLA Ch Kranti Kiran's concern that sportspersons, native to Telangana, were facing discrimination as far as opportunities are concerned.
He said Telangana boasts of several talented sportspersons, who have to be identified and given proper encouragement to excel.
The TRS MLA stated that government takes credit for P Gopichand or PV Sindhu, who does not belong to Telangana, but the need of the hour is encouraging young sport stars from this region.
The Minister also lashed out at Congress members, when they passed on comments, over his department project of constructing a sports stadium in each assembly constituency. The Minister said ten stadiums were completed while 75 others are in different stages.
Goud said that Congress government did not think of constructing stadiums during its tenure, but what they did was allotting large tract of government lands across the state including Hyderabad which did not serve any purpose.
Srinivas Goud informed the House that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to modernise the popular LB Stadium, one of the big sporting landmarks of Hyderabad. It would be done in PPP mode and more details would emerge in the coming weeks.
Srinivas Goud further said they are contemplating giving permissions to run 1,000 to 1,500 SETWIN buses in different parts of Hyderabad, especially on MMTS routes as the public are complaining about difficulties in transportation from different areas and colonies to nearby station to catch a train.
He said at present 500 buses are operating in twin cities. The Minister said that this bus service was providing employment to six to seven individuals per each bus service including drivers, conductors, cleaners and helpers.
