Warangal: As The Hans India had predicted earlier, Gunda Prakash Rao is the new Mayor of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).
He was elected unanimously in the specially convened Council meeting here on Saturday.
He represents 26th Division in the GWMC. Gunda Prakash Rao who was the lone contender for the Mayor post was proposed by the 27th Division Corporator Vaddiraj Ganesh and seconded by 22nd Division Corporator Marupalla Bhagyalaxmi.
With no other Corporator in the fray, the Returning Officer Prashanth Jeevan Patil has announced 65-year-old Gunda Prakash Rao elected as the new Mayor.
Earlier in a meeting with the TRS Corporators, Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao revealed party leadership's decision to elect four-time Corporator Gunda Prakash Rao as the Mayor unanimously.
It may be recalled that Mayor post fell vacant after the resignation of Nannapuneni Narender, who got elected as the MLA from the Warangal East constituency in the recent elections to the Assembly.
Since then Deputy Mayor Khaja Sirajuddin has been the in-charge Mayor.
