Hyderabad: The lockdown has come as a blessing in disguise for construction activity. The long-pending Balanagar-Narsapur flyover, for instance, which has missed several deadlines is now gaining traction.
The construction works of Rs 387 crore project taken up under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) have been completed during the lockdown. In the last one month, GHMC demolished around 357 properties were demolished to acquire land for the project.
"Balanagar-to-Narsapur flyover is being constructed with a width of 24 meters and length of 1.13km with an estimated project cost of Rs 387 crore. The road which is currently 30 meters wide will be extended to 45 meters and the flyover will have 24 meter width. Engineering department has completed foundation works and slabs are already placed. With this we have almost completed 70% of works and yet to complete 30% works and can be completed in no time," said BLN Reddy, the chief executive engineer, HMDA.
"Typically, foundation work for any flyover takes at least 10 days for one foundation. But, we could construct 7 foundations in a span of 30 days. Which is a record breaking shortest duration for construction under HMDA, we shall break several more records and complete the works by completely utilising the lockdown period," Reddy added.
• 70 per cent of works completed; 7 foundations laid in just a month
• Traffic congestion at Fathenagar and Narsapur junction would decrease
• Commuters from Kukatpally to Bowenpally will be highly benefited
• The flyover would also help in reducing rate of accidents in Balanagar
