Hyderabad: GHMC decides to raze 200 weak structures

Hyderabad: Mayor Bonthu Rammohan who assessed the damage caused by the pre-monsoon rainfall on Sunday informed that in order to avert possible risk of building collapse during monsoon, the GHMC would be pulling down about 200 dilapidated structures shortly.

The Mayor who was examining the emergency relief works at the KBR park being undertaken by the GHMC workers on Sunday evening said that already the civic body has brought down 1,500 structures during the past 3 years. He said the GHMC deployed 267 monsoon emergency teams across the city in view of the rainfalls, apart from 16 DRF (Disaster Relief Force) which are ready to cope with any situation.

He said that the GHMC desilted 53 major nalas and engaged one team exclusively to take care of manholes. With the help of motors, water would be cleared at 30 stagnation points. As many 70 JCBs are made available during the entire monsoon for desilting purpose. "We cleared all the trees at 10 spots which fell on Sunday," he added.

Earlier in the day, the Mayor visited Naubat Pahad Colony near Birla Mandir under Khairatabad Zone and took part in awareness programme being conducted by the entomology Wing of GHMC as part of 'Sunday's 10 o' clock 10 minutes campaign. The programme was also attended by Corporator, Mamata Gupta, Zonal Commissioner (Khairtabad) P Pravinya, Chief Entomologist Rambabu and others.
