Hyderabad: Haleem just a call away
Hyderabad: The lockdown has sapped the usual excitement and hustle-bustle associated with Ramzan month. Also, the denizens have been denied the raptures of savouring the rich and heady flavor of the much-loved Haleem. It has been tortuous for lovers of this culinary delight.
However, there is some great news to relish. Even as big guns such as Pista House, Shah Ghouse, Paradise have decided against making Haleem owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, a few enterprising individuals have decided to make it available. They are planning to deliver the gooey delicacy at your doorstep starting May 15.
Saba Ali, 34, says, "Starting May 15, we will be taking orders from green and orange zones only. The parcels will be delivered at the doorstep. A family pack of 500 grams comes with 6 eggs and two bottles of soft drink." Safa adds, "We could not go online earlier as it was almost impossible to travel but since the restrictions have eased, we decided to make Haleem at least for the remaining days of the holy month." Eid is likely to be on May 34, depending on the sighting of the moon.
There are several old families in Hyderabad that receive a number of requests. Nafisa, 52, resident of Purani Haveli says, "We share delicacies every year but my sons encouraged me and this year we would be taking orders online." She added, "The logistics is being taken care of by my children. Their friends are doubling up as delivery boys."
Every year close to 4000 units including roadside ones and individuals sell Haleem. The Haleem market is facing losses worth Rs 300 crore due to the Coronavirus pandemic. With the ease in restrictions, several families are now planning to sell Haleem for the remaining days before Eid. Ohris is also offering mutton and chicken haleem take aways between 12 noon to 5 pm.
