Hyderabad: Land sharks eyeing drinking water sources

Hyderabad: Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) Foundation has fervently appealed to the High Court to intervene and safeguard the existing drinking water reservoirs of Hyderabad. They sought removal of encroachments from FTL (full tank level) of Osman Sagar. They also sought resumption of drinking water from Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar to Hyderabad.

"Government of Telangana is giving most perilous and absurd statements in the courts and to the public that as drinking water to Hyderabad city is brought from 250 km away from rivers Godavari and Krishna, we need not preserve the water bodies for drinking water needs of Hyderabad. The once water self-sufficient Hyderabad is now brought down on its knees made dependent on water pumped from across the districts. This is unacceptable as per sense, science and law. We await earliest action in accordance with natural principles of justice, application of mind, rule of law and constitution of Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic of India," the representatives of SOUL mentioned in a representation to the High Court Chief Justice.
