Hyderabad: Minority orphanage to be ready within 6 months in Nampally

Nampally: The works at century-old orphanage Anees-ul-Ghurba near Nampally Railway Station, whose works commenced after foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in 2017, are going at a slow pace.

The construction works which was to be completed in early 2019 is running behind the schedule, as for now only 4-floor slabs have been constructed and would be completed within next six months.

On Wednesday, Minister of Welfare department Koppula Eshwar, Advisor to Government Minority Welfare A K Khan, Minority Welfare Department Director Shahnawaz Qasim, Telangana State Wakf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem and CEO Mohamed Qasim, AIMIM floor leader and MLA Chandrayangutta Akbaruddin Owaisi and other department officers held review meeting with the contractor and R&B Department and also inspected the ongoing construction works of Anees-ul-Ghurba.

Speaking to media, A K Khan said the committee members made a visit to review the construction works and instructed the concerned officials for speeding up the project works. He said that the committee also conducted a review meeting and discussed about the project and instructed the officials to complete the project at the earliest. He said that for the construction more budget was required, and committee was trying its best to arrange the requisite the budget for the completion of the orphanage.

He also said that Anees-ul-Ghurba students were now residing at Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) in Musheerabad and would be shifted here after the construction of the building. After the construction more destitute children, around 600 students, could be accommodated, Khan added.

Later, Mohammed Saleem said that for generating funds for maintenance of orphanage, the committee would be leasing out space for commercial establishments. According to an official source, the state-of-art multi-storied building constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore was one of the biggest projects of Wakf Board. The amount was sanctioned during the first term of TRS government and around Rs 8 crore was released and now a construction bill of Rs 1 crore was pending with the authorities.

The old building in 350 sq yd of land was constructed during the time of Nizam. Now, the Wakf Board decided to come up with a bigger complex on the entire 4,500 sq yrd land as a part of development for minority welfare by the State government.
