Karimnagar: Every party keen to win PACS elections

Karimnagar: All the political parties are gearing up to face the Cooperative elections, which will be held on February 15 in the united Karimnagar district.

To gain upper hand and keep up its supremacy, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti is leaving no stone unturned while the main Opposition parties Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress along with Telugu Desham Party and Left parties including All India Forward Block are also preparing their cadre to give a tough fight and keep their strong hold at gross root levels.

Previously in the united Andhra Pradesh, the PACS elections were held in two phases - first phase in 2012 and second phase in 2013. The tenure of the ruling body will be for a period of five years, which was completed in 2018 and the elections must be held in February 2018 in the newly formed Telangana State.

But the TRS government went on extending the term of the ruling body for every six months and finally decided to conduct elections and issued a notification on February 3. The process of receiving nominations from the aspirants was also started from February 6 onwards and will continue till February 8. The scrutiny for nominations will be held on February 9 and withdrawal of nominations on February 10 with elections on February 15 along with counting of votes and declaring of results on the same day.

There are about 125 cooperative societies in the united Karimnagar district, out of which 54 are present in Jagtial district, 30 in Karimnagar district, 21 in Rajanna Sircilla district and 20 are in Peddapalli district.

As many as 1,70,768 voters will cast their vote in this cooperative society elections. Out of which, the highest number of voters, i.e., 52,201 from Karimnagar district, 52,106 voters from Jagtial district, 35,776 voters from Peddapalli and least from Rajanna Sircilla district about 30,688 voters.

For each society 13 directors will be elected, thus a total of 1,625 directors will be elected for the 125 societies. The details of reservations for the director post will be submitted to the societies concerned. Later the director of each society will elect chairman and vice-chairman among them through indirect method.

Meanwhile, as the PACS elections are going to be held for the first time after the formation of separate Telangana State, the three major political parties TRS, BJP and Congress along with TDP, which has cadre in some rural areas, are taking this elections prestigious and conducting constituency level meeting and assigning works to their key leaders.
