Kothagudem: District Collector Dr MV Reddy said the State government is planning to construct airport in Kothagudem district to provide better facilities to the people of rural areas, after inspecting the land proposed for the airport at Gudipadu village in Palvoncha mandal on Wednesday.

The government is contemplating to expand air connectivity to district headquarters from metropolitan cities and as part of it looking for suitable site in Kothagudem district, he said and added that at least 1,000 acres land is needed to construct airport. He later spoke with the airport officials over phone and explained land availability.

In fact, the officials proposed site to set up green field airport near Kothagudem town earlier. The airport officials also visited the proposed land and in principle agreed to construct but locals opposed the construction of airport and the proposal was kept pending. The administration started searching for another land. Palvoncha Tahsildar Bhagavan Reddy, MPDO Albert and Muncipal Commissioner Srikanth and others were along with the Collector.
