Mahabubabad: In view of growing crimes against women, parents need to keep an eye on their wards' movements besides teaching them to be vigilant, Minister for Tribal Welfare Satyavathi Rathod said. Speaking at a programme 'Dial 100 in Distress' organised by the Mahabubabad Police here on Tuesday, she said that a parent is the best person to teach their child about personal safety.

"As the children lack the skills to protect themselves, the onus is on parents to teach them the skills to be safe. Make your children assertive in order to protect themselves. We can protect our children by teaching them to be smart, strong, and safe," the Minister said.

Referring to the rape and murder of Disha in Hyderabad and a teenage girl in Warangal, she said that it is high time that police gird up their loins and ensure no such incident happens again in the future.

She urged the people to utilise the services of the police by dialling '100'. She emphasised the need for sensitising people about the importance of dialling 100 when in distress. Instead of panicking in times of distress, the women should try to alert the police and search for other options to help themselves out of the problem, she said.

Superintendent of Police N Koti Reddy, DSP Naresh Kumar, RDO Komuraiah and DWO Sandhya Rani were among others present.
