Non-local to be MP for Medak yet again

Medak: The issues of 'locals' is a very important tool in the poll campaign in every election. Voters want the contestants to be lawmakers and understand their issues for the sake of development. That is why they prefer local leaders. But in Medak Lok Sabha constituency, which has a historical background, it is a different situation altogether. Since the formation of the constituency, leaders from other districts have been elected from here.

From the first MP NM Jayasurya after formation of new constituency to Indira Gandhi, and A Narendra and Vijayashanti, who were elected as MPs from here, are all non-locals. NM Jayasurya, Hanmantha Rao, Sangam Lakshmi Bai were from Secunderabad, who won the MP seats. In 1971, Dr. Mallikarjun from Mahabubnagar, and Indira Gandhi from Delhi, later A Narendra of BJP and Vijayasanthi who also won from Medak constituency are from Hyderabad.

Four MPs represented from the old district. TDP MP, Manik Reddy, who won in 1984, was from Dakur village in Andhole mandal. M Bagareddy who won four consecutive times from 1989 to 1999 was from Zaheerabad. Telangana Chief Minister KCR, who won in 2014 is from Chinthamadaka village in Siddipet mandal. Kotha Prabhakar Reddy from Potharam village in Dabbaka Mandal won from TRS in the 2014 by-elections.

Among these MPs, no one is from Medak assembly constituency so far. At least no one has contested till now. In the present elections, Gali Anil Kumar from the Congress and Kotha Prabhakar Reddy from the TRS are in the fray. The BJP candidate M Raghunandan Rao is also born in Siddipet and resident of Patancheru. This time also the voters of Medak parliamentary segment are likely to choose their MP who is not a native of the constituency.
