After Abubakar Colony in Ward No.2, where local people voluntarily built their own sewerage system, the latest incident was reported from Sadat Colony near Khaja Bakery in Ward No.17, just a few meters away from Jalpally municipal office where the local people took up sewerage line work by their own after finding that the municipal authorities are laying roads without facilitating the sewerage line.
Affirming the same, A.Prashanti Sridhar Goud, councilor Ward No.17, Jalpally municipality said, “We brought the matter of road approval in Khaja Bakery Street without sewerage line to the notice of the municipal authorities as well as the Minister of Education Sabitha Indra Reddy but to no avail. Somehow we have managed to get the manhole lids from the municipality but the pipes have been purchased by the local people to build the sewerage system and bear the cost of labour charges.” Lashing out at municipal authorities, Ghousuddin Shaik, a native resident said, “Road works are being taken up recently in Khaja Bakery regardless of the hardship the people may life through in the wake of incessant rains as all the existing manholes lying on the street was filled with concrete that turn them completely dysfunctional.”
Earlier this year, the people of Abubakar Colony in Ward No.2 were also found building their own
sewerage system after finding that the municipal authorities are least concerned of their sufferings.
“Upon realizing that the representations to municipal authorities time and again are yielding no results, the local people at Abubakar Colony unanimously decided to build our own sewerage system by contributing from their own pockets,” said Samad Bin Siddiq, a former gram panchayat member, Jalpally municipality.
With a share contribution of Rs.16,500 each, he said, the local people manage to collect an amount of Rs. 1.5 lakhs and secure around 47 pipes to build a sewerage line in our street.
“Apart from this, 50 trucks of earthen material were also dumped in the pothole ridden street so as to level the surface properly. This way they have managed to build their own sewerage system after failing to get the help from the municipality officials,” he added.
