Secunderabad Cantonment: Officials of RTA and Traffic police on Tuesday organised a traffic awareness programme in Tirumalgiri, as part of the Traffic Safety Week. North Zone police officer V Srinivas Reddy and staff cautioned people that they could not escape fines if they do not observe traffic rules.

The vehicle-riders informed the police that there was a need for laying of proper roads before enforcing traffic regulations and provision for parking.

The police officials urged people to use helmets while driving two-wheelers and not to indulge in rash driving. They warned auto drivers of imposing fines if they carry more than the permitted passengers. The police tried to drive home to people the point that imposing heavy fines was not intended to fill the government coffers, but for their welfare.

The RTA officials pointed out that the MV Act has been introduced by the Centre after holding debates. "It is the duty of officials to create awareness to vehicle-users." They stated that observance of traffic rules, as per the MV Act, would ensure safe travel and result in reduction in road accidents.
