Sardar Papanna remembered: Ponnala Laxmaiah

Warangal: Former Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah has on Sunday demanded that the State government install the statue of Sardar Sarwai Papanna Goud on Tank Bund in Hyderabad. He was speaking at a programme commemorating the birth anniversary of Papanna at Cherial in Jangaon district.

Stating that he was proud of born in Quileshapur village under Raghunathpally mandal, the native place of Papanna, Laxmaiah demanded Jangaon to be named after Sardar Sarwai Papanna district. "There was also a need for including the story of Papanna in the textbooks to spread his heroics that largely helped poor and downtrodden," Laxmaiah said.

Referring to the services of Prof Jayashankar, Telangana ideologue, and Konda Laxman Bapuji, freedom fighter and T activists, former minister urged the Central Government to honour them fittingly.

He assured help to put up a statue of Sarwai Papanna in Cherial village. Laxmaiah criticised the State Government for reducing the quota for backward classes (BCs). "It's unpardonable to cut the quota of BCs who form major chunk of population.
