Hyderabad: State BJP condemns lathi-charge
Hyderabad: State BJP unit condemned the police lathi-charge on the students of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during its 'Chalo Assembly' programme organised here on Wednesday.
State BJP chief K Laxman said that the students were protesting to highlight the problems bothering the education sector in the State. In particular, the meagre allocations made to the education during the current budget proposals. Also, the students have organised the protest against the State government failure to take steps to fill the vacancies of faculty int the degree and junior colleges, besides the universities.
However, instead of resolving the issues the State government has let police resort to lathi-charge on the peaceful protesters in which, 200 students were arrested and several others sustained serious injuries.
Taking exception to the lathi-charge against the students, BJP Telangana chief spokesperson K Krishna Saagar Rao lashed out at the State government and for the police highhandedness. The police could prevent the protesters and even can arrest them. But, attacking them causing serious injuries leading to several students getting admitted in the hospitals with fractures is highly objectionable, he said.
He demanded a statement on the issue by the State Home Minister, DGP or chief minister himself and immediate release of all the students who were arrested. He also demanded stringent action against the police personnel who are responsible for the 'brutal' action against the peaceful protestors.
