TDP demands probe into discrepancies in property tax
Humayunnagar: Members of TDP Greater Hyderabad Minority Wing on Monday demanded that the higher officials order vigilance inquiry into the discrepancies which have cropped up in the Property Tax Payer's list.
As some of the property owners are forced to pay double the amount of tax owing to 'double preparer tax identification numbers' (PTIN).
Citing an instance from Humayunnagar, TDP Greater Hyderabad Minority vice president Mohammed Ahmed questioned the efficiency of GHMC officials in collecting property tax.
He pointed out that a house bearing number 10-3-67/3/2/A, Humayunnagar had received notice for paying double the tax owing to generation of two PTIN numbers.
"I feel that this was intentional and the higher-ups should look into the matter or order vigilance probe, as to how these kinds of discrepancies are cropping in," he noted.
Earlier in 2018, GHMC also received notice from the same house owner's lawyer demanding action against authorities concerned who despite several representations failed to delete the double PTIN number for a single house.
In the notice, Venkateshwara Rao alleged that since the house owner failed to extend favours to the Tax Inspector, he started harassing in this way.
The legal notice also demanded legal action against the Deputy Commissioner for his failure.
