Two lakh 2BHKs will be ready by March 2020, asserts Minister

Hyderabad: Housing Minister V Prashanth Reddy on Monday said that the government has fixed a target of completing 2 lakh double bedroom houses by March 2020.

Replying to the discussion on demands in the Assembly on Monday, Prashanth Reddy said the State government sanctioned 2.82 lakh houses and tender process was completed for 2 lakh houses.

Construction of about 1.8 lakh houses was started and already 96,000 houses were constructed up to 90 per cent and 34,000 houses are ready for occupation. He said that government spent Rs 6,972 crore so far on the construction of these houses.

The Minister said this is a record of sorts as the government was constructing more than what the private builders have collective constructed in Hyderabad.

He said that the double bedroom house construction was making contribution in the State GDP. About 80,000 construction workers in city and in the rural areas were getting employment and the industries associated with construction activity are getting benefited.

Prashanth Reddy said that at Kollur alone 17,000 houses were being constructed and this township is the biggest in Asian continent. Apart from Kollur, 12,756 houses were constructed in Quthbullapur constituency.

The Minister said the government sanctioned 1 lakh houses in GHMC with Rs 8115 crore, completed 7,944 and 66,273 were completed up to 90 per cent. Remaining would be completed by March 2020.

In Old City, so far 4,123 houses were under process, 880 houses were completed and by 2020 March all the houses would be completed, he said.

Replying to a question by TRS member MLA KP Vivekanand, the Minister said that sewerage treatment plants and other facilities were being provided to the new townships.

In rural areas, 50 per cent of the houses would be allocated to SCs and STs and in GHMC area the minorities would be provided 12 per cent reservation.
