The three-day international neonatology conference ‘NEOCON 2019’ concluded on a high note here on Sunday.

Vijayawada: The three-day international neonatology conference 'NEOCON 2019' concluded on a high note here on Sunday. The conference was organised by National Neonatology Forum, AP state in association with National Neonatology Forum, India. The theme of the conference was 'Preterm birth – Revive, Survive and thrive'.

The first of its kind three-day conference witnessed doctors from abroad and from various parts of India. More than 700 delegates, faculty from India and overseas participated in the conference. Faculty talked about innovations in neonatology, emergencies, future of neonatology, improving newborn came at community level, reducing newborn mortality rate in India.

Dr PV Rama Rao, chief organising secretary of the conference said that the conference highlighted on various aspects of newborn health including innovations in newborn health and future of neonatology.

He said that the main reasons for higher neonatal mortality are marriages at younger age, poor nutrition in mothers and lack of awareness leading to premature birth, low birth weight babies. Other important causes are neonatal infections, congenital anomalies and birth asphyxia, he said.

The conference proceedings were structured in a format to achieve two goals-- to review the current trends in the management and treatment of the most common problem in neonates and to take evidence based look at the technologies or equipment used to treat or monitor the neonates.

Dr N Suryanarayana, organising chairman, Dr R Venkateswara Rao, Dr P Durga Prasad, Dr K P Saradhi, Dr Ch Mallikarjuna Rao and others congratulated all the committee members who took part in their conference.
