The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu told the students and faculty members of higher educational institutions like universities to think out-of-the-box for innovation of new things for rapid progress.
Tirupati: The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu told the students and faculty members of higher educational institutions like universities to think out-of-the-box for innovation of new things for rapid progress.
Speaking after inaugurating the first `Andhra Pradesh Science Congress (APSC)’ here at SV University on Wednesday, Chief Minister urged the students and teachers to come up with innovative ideas. Naidu told the Vice-Chancellors of the universities to see that at least one incubation centre is set up in their institution and also play pro-active role for start-up facilities in villages too.
Integrate technology and best practices and ensure collaboration with best universities in the country and in the world to impart the best education to students,’’ he opined. In the same breath, he told the students not to confine themselves to classrooms but focus on field studies, citing foreign universities where field-study comprises 40 per cent of student’s education.
Responding to Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (APAS) secretary K R S Sambasiva Rao request to provide Rs 2 crore grant to APAS for expanding its activities, Naidu said that he is prepared to give more, provided the APAS along with universities take the lead in taking science to school-level and also promote scientific temperament in villages.
Naidu also sought the universities to include leading members of industries and eminent personalities in decision making bodies for university-industry collaboration and with regard to S V University, he suggested roping in of scientist G Satish Reddy, advisor to Defence Minister who is from Nellore and G Nageswar Reddy, Gastroenterologist from Rayalaseema region. The CM also said that he is ready to provide Rs 60 crore in the next two years, as sought by vice chancellor A Damodharam if he takes the university to the top position.
He went into nostalgic trip and recalled his student days in the university and said ` I have learnt all political lessons here. It gave me my political birth, while Lord Balaji gave me a new lease of life by saving me from the accident (bomb blast at Alipiri)’ indicating that he is ready to provide all help to make the university a top-rated one.

He said in a lighter vein `but I want you (students) to keep away from politics to concentrate on education, so that there will be no competition (in politics).
Earlier, Naidu presented the `Life-Time Achievement Awards’ to five eminent personalities including P Rama Rao, former secretary of DST, A S Kiran Kumar, secretary, Dept of Space and chairman, ISRO, D Nageswar Reddy, famous gastroenterologist, Mohan Rao, CCMB director and K Lakshminaryana, AP Skill Development Corporation chairman in recognition of their outstanding services.
