Visakhapatnam: Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute introduced the state’s first positron emission tomography and computed tomography cancer imaging services at their MVP Colony premises here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Managing Director of the hospital Dr V Muralikrishna, surgical oncologist, said that prostate cancer is the world’s second common cancer after lung cancer which was mostly seen in male in the age group of 50.

He said to conform prostate cancer, the local patients had to travel for checkup to the other neighbouring states and now the facility is available on their hospital premises at a reduced costs.

Dr R Kashyap said that previously to conform prostate cancer the patient was made to wait for months even after regular check up of EMRI, bone scan, CT scan and blood test for a period of three months. Now with only one PET and CT scan test, the report would show the patient’s disease stage and the condition.
