Vijayawada: The Congress party sought intervention of President Pranab Mukherjee over the issue of induction of four defected MLAs of YSR Congress Party into the State Cabinet stating that it was an unconstitutional act.

PCC chief Raghuveera writes a letter to Pranab Mukherjee

In a letter to the President, APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had ridiculed the people’s judgment and intentionally encouraged 21 YSRCP MLAs to switch over to the Telugu Desam Party.

The Chief Minister did not stop his political corruption and inducted the turncoat legislators into the Cabinet even while a disqualification petition against them was pending with the State Assembly Speaker.

The other defected MLAs were also continuing in the TDP without submitting resignation to the YSR Congress Party, the PCC chief pointed out. “People are of the view that the Governor and the Speaker did not act as per Constitution in the entire issue,” Raghuveera said.

He also said that the Congress was appealing to the President to take steps to prevent defections of MLAs in the State and save democratic spirit.
