Speaking to The Hans India, general secretary of Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners’ Association Eswara Rao informed that the talks between the leaders of Lorry Operators and chairman of Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) Vijayan held in Hyderabad on Monday, failed.

He stated that the IRDA chairman told the leaders that there was no going back on the decision to collect hiked third party insurance premium from April but a committee will be set up to go through the pros and cons of the hiked insurance premium.Quoting the national leaders, Eswara Rao said that the leaders walked out of the meeting in protest stating that once the collection of hiked premium begins, it would be continued for ever.
“With this development, all other states will be participating in the agitation from April 8,” he added. He observed that AP Oil Tanker Owners’ Association also stopped vehicles from Tuesday across the state.AP Lorry Operators’ Association vice-president GV Ramana Rao informed that they will intensify the agitation in a peaceful manner as the operators are not in a position to bear 50 per cent hike in the third party insurance premium.
He alleged that even the IRDA also failed to give any assurance of reducing the hiked premium. Flaying the state government for collecting Rs 4 extra per litre on diesel as VAT which was not prevailing in any other state, he demanded to waive the same immediately to benefit both operators and the bunk owners of AP.
He demanded the state and Central governments to implement uniform toll gate fee across the country and to provide rest rooms for drivers besides ambulance facility on national highways. “On humanitarian grounds, we have exempted the lorries carrying medicines, milk and water,” he added.
