By 2020, depression will become the second leading cause of illness, said the doctors of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Tirupati Branch. Speaking to the media, on the eve of World Health Day to be observed on April 7, they said that youth between 15-29 years age group are more prone to depression, which can be curable through medicines or counseling or in some cases both.

Tirupati: By 2020, depression will become the second leading cause of illness, said the doctors of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Tirupati Branch. Speaking to the media, on the eve of World Health Day to be observed on April 7, they said that youth between 15-29 years age group are more prone to depression, which can be curable through medicines or counseling or in some cases both. They said that it is treatable, curable and preventable.

IMA – Tirupati wing President, Dr Vasudeva Naidu, General Secretary Dr AR Reddy, Dr D Sreehari Rao, Dr Seshamma, Dr K Raja Rao and Dr Yugandhar spoke on the occasion.


They said that the theme of this year World Health Day is “Depression – Let’s talk”, which means depression is a disease but it is necessary to talk about that with the close ones at appropriate time. In India 36 percent of the population was suffering from depression which has increased by 18 per cent last year.
