Vijayawada: Tension prevailed for some time when women protesters made an attempt to stop the screening of Arjuna Reddy movie at a theatre in Gandhi Nagar area of the city here on Thursday. The women belonging to AP Mahila Congress and CPI staged a protest demanding stoppage of screening of ‘Arjun Reddy’ movie as it “contains many objectionable portions that hurt our sentiments and culture”.

The protest in Vijayawada city assumed significance following the ongoing controversy raised by senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao and counter attack by Ramgopal Varma in Hyderabad city recently.

Sunkara Padmasri, AP Mahila Congress president, who led the protest, wanted the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to watch the movie with his son. She said the movie would leave a bad influence on youth as it was encouraging drug usage, adding that these kind of movies would spoil family values.
