New Delhi: Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao here on Tuesday met the new Cabinet ministers of the Union Water Resources Ministry, Nitin Gadkari, Arjun Ram Meghawal and Satyapal Singh and invited them to visit the State for first-hand knowledge of the impressive strides that the AP government made in enriching the water resources.

Devineni Uma, who attended a meeting of the National Water Development Agency, welcomed the initiative to include interlinking of rivers as very appropriate and the need of the hour.

He said AP was also facing deficit rainfall and drought conditions even as hundreds of tmcft of Godavari water was flowing into the sea during floods. “Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, thought it fit to link Godavari and Krishna rivers through Pattiseema project in 2015 and since then the government could save Rs 8,000 crore worth crops in Krishna delta. The Government would link other rivers too at the earliest and tackle drought,” he informed.

He said ground water levels were being monitored on real time basis in the State and in the last three years 58,300 check dams, 725 cascade dams and 6,20,487 farms ponds were built to conserve water and asked the Union Minister should visit the State for an appraisal.
