A total of nine persons died in the district on Sunday in accidents on the NH-16 and other places. A thick fog enveloped the city and its surroundings reducing the visibility causing death of four persons in an accident on the National Highway. In another incident, two bikers died on the NH when they hit a private bus.

In NTR Nagar, four persons, including a sarpanch died when a car rammed into a stationary truck on the NH in the early hours. The victims were identified as M Narsamma, 45; P Manjula, 35 and M Mallikarjuna, 48. Identify of the fourth person is yet to be established.
According to sources, six persons from two families from Venkannapalem of Thotapalli Gudur mandal were returning to their village after visiting Velankanni Church in Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu. When they reached NTR Nagar, the car in which they were travelling rammed into a parked truck due to low visibility on the highway.
Three persons died on the spot and another person died while being shifted to hospital for treatment. Locals shifted two more injured people to a local private hospital and then to the Government hospital for treatment. Nellore rural police registered a case and were investigating. In another incident, two persons died when a motorcycle hit a Karnataka-bound private travels bus at Prasanthi Nagar on NH in the afternoon.
One of the deceased has been identified as Jaffar, 24. The second person succumbed to his injuries at Government General Hospital. On receiving the information, residents of Jakeer Hussain Nagar and kin of the deceased rushed to the spot.
They expressed anger over driver of the bus and set it ablaze after asking the passengers to get down. Driver of the private travels fled away from the scene when the family members of the deceased attacked the bus. Nellore rural police were investigating.
In the third incident, a person died and four others sustained injuries as the car which in which they were travelling from Gudur to Kadapa overturned Raviguntapalli in Rapur. The deceased was identified as Raghu of Nellore.
In another incident, a couple who were fishing in Nellore drowned in tank in the evening. Gandalla Venkata Ramanaiah, 30, and his wife G Dhanalakshmi, 28, were from Ogurupadu in Nellore rural mandal. Local people and police retrieved the bodies from the tank.
