Visakhapatnam: Demanding the Central government announce the long pending demand of north Andhra region railway zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters, the YSR Congress Party staged a dharna here on Thursday. They demanded the resignations of Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Visakhapatnam MP K Haribabu.

The political parties and trade unions alleged that the Central government again cheated the people of Andhra Pradesh by not allocating funds for various assured projects. The YSR Congress Party, CPM, CPI and other organisations pointed out that the Central government did not mention special railway zone for Vizag as headquarters in the budget.

YSR Congress Party leaders Gudivada Amarnath, Koyya Prasada Reddy and others demanded that the TDP come out from the Union Cabinet. The BJP and TDP for the last four years assuring the people of north Andhra region that exclusive railway zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters, but even in the last budget also, the BJP government had failed to mention about the railway zone, Amarnath and Prasada Reddy alleged.

Thousands of CPM workers led by B Ganga Rao, RKSV Kumar and B Jagan staged a dharna at Visakhapatnam railway station. The CPM activists raised slogans against the BJP and TDP governments. Addressing a gathering, CPM senior leader Padmanabha Raju and Ganga Rao said that the BJP and TDP cheating the people.

The BJP MPs, MLAs and MLCs should resign and exert pressure on the Centre for the railway zone, Ganga Rao demanded. Senior CPM leader Ch Narasinga Rao said that the budget is favourable to the corporate sector.

People unhappy: Murthi

Gross domestic product is expected to grow eight percent in 2018-19 with the budget and will certainly improve investors’ confidence in Indian economy. “But, we are not happy with the budget as requests we made for Andhra Pradesh have not been addressed. There is disappointment among the people of Andhra Pradesh on budget, said MLC Dr. MVVS Murthi.

Budget disappointing , says TDP MLA

Payakaraopeta MLA V Anitha stated that the Union budget disappointed the people of Andhra Pradesh. It's an election oriented budget, she termed. The TDP MLA participated in a programme here on Thursday and alleged that the Central government had failed to allot funds for the irrigation projects in the state.

Not happy: TDP MP

“Our State received raw deal in Union budget and we are not happy with it,” said Srikakulam TDP MP K Rammohan Naidu. Speaking to The Hans India from New Delhi over phone on Thursday, he was disappointed for not announcing separate railway zone and funds allocation to clear deficit budget in the state.

The MP earlier moved a private member bill in Parliament for separate railway zone for the state. MP confirmed that TDP National President and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will hold a meeting with the MPs on February 4 to decide future course of action.
