That Pawan Kalyan tends to transform himself into a bundle of contradictions has been proved once again. His assertion that Special Category Status is not all that important while replying to a question from a television channel reporter laid bare his desultory stand on the issue.

After Pawan Kalyan's faux pas, the Jana Sena Party tried to cover their chief's tracks with a tweet that he was committed to SCS and that the reporter did not understand what Pawan Kalyan had said.
Pawan Kalyan’s answer to the question on Special Category Status, which he had said time and again that it is non-negotiable, was that SCS tag was not all that important.
He said he does not care in what channel the funds would arrive as long as the flow continues, he said which was the stand of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu after he settled for special package announced by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in 2016 in lieu of SCS.
In the interview, Pawan Kalyan said: “It doesn’t matter whether the state gets the tag of special status or not. Name of status is not important. The issue is that we need financial help from the central government.”
Then he says that he was not averse to having an alliance with the BJP at the time of elections and again he says that till such time his demand for SCS is not met, he would not strike any compromise with the BJP and that there is no possibility of a compromise between "us and the BJP."
He said the people in Andhra Pradesh are very upset with the BJP and they do not trust the party.
The demand for special status is not an emotional one but driven by practical needs, he argues. There are seven districts in Andhra Pradesh that are like Bundelkhand (in UP) and are in a very bad condition. To improve the condition of these districts, we need more funds from the Central government, he said.
To a question as to why he did not raise the issue of corruption with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pawan Kalyan said he did not try to meet him though he knew him since he did not want to interfere at a time when the TDP-BJP relations were showing signs of coming under pressure then.
Then again, he says he was not a parliamentarian to get to meet the Prime Minister, leaving the question open ended whether he is close to the Prime Minister or not.
