Kakinada: The fishing ban in high sea during breeding season, every year for a period of two months seems to be difficult period for those who make their livelihood on catching alone.

As far as East Godavari is concerned, there are 3,800 mechanised and motored boats which venture into sea for fishing in deep sea waters. While the mechanised boat operators who go deep into sea return to the base after four or five days.

The motored boats take two to three days’ time to return to the base. The traditional boats cover smaller distances from the coast. Apart from fisheries department, Marine Police and Coast Guard check the fishing operations of any kind during the ban period. For unauthorised fishing, cases will be booked apart from imposing heavy penalties.
