Tirupati: In an effort to promote non-conventional energy sources, an NGO called Community Reconstruction Of Social Service (CROSS) in association with social organisation Fair Climate Service (FCS) and flight operator Indigo commissioned 4,000 biogas plants in three constituencies of Gangadhara Nellore, Nagari and Satyavedu in Chittoor district.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, CROSS president P Bhupathi said that 277 villages in the 12 interior mandals in the three constituencies were covered under a special campaign taken up by CROSS along with Indigo and FCS benefitting 4,000 households.

He said NREDCAP also involved in the programme and provided biogas plants free of cost to the beneficiaries as part of promoting eco-friendly energy sources. CROSS field officer Chitti Babu said that the women in the villages were given training in operating the biogas plant.
