Srikakulam: For the last five months, the employees of Swachh Bharath Mission (SBM), who are working at garbage recycling units (GRUs) are not getting salaries regularly.

In Srikakulam, out of total 1,095 village panchayats GRUs started working at 577 village panchayats. For collection, transport and recycling of garbage, three categories of staff like green guards, green ambassadors and facilitators have been appointed on out sourcing basis at village panchayat level.

Monthly salary for each worker is Rs 6,000 and salaries for these staff have to be paid for one year from Central government funds under the SBM.

It means, the salaries of staff would be paid from Central government funds till August 2019 and later September onwards, the State government will have to pay it. The total staff in GRUs are 2,304. One green guard and one facilitator are being appointed at each GRU and one green ambassador appointed for each village panchayat and two ambassadors at major panchayats and total ambassadors are 1150.

For the last five months, the staff members of SBM who are working at GRUs are not getting salaries regularly. “We have not been receiving salaries for the last five months and we are requesting our officials repeatedly for our salaries but in vain,” said Rajapu Shyam and Challa Rammurthy working at Narasannapeta panchayat GRU to The Hans India.

“We are paying salaries to the staff once in three months after receiving funds,” said district panchayat officer B Koteswara Rao and district panchayat resource centre coordinator K Hema Sundar to this newspaper.
