India’s very first Ducati 1299 Superleggera has been delivered to a passionate motorcycle enthusiast Vikram Oberoi. Vikram Oberoi isn’t new to the Ducati brand, well, his garage is filled with Ducatis including the 1299 Panigale S, 916 and 1098.

Superleggera means super-light and the Ducati 1299 Superleggera weighs just 156 kgs (dry), all thanks to the extensive use of carbon fibre. The 1299 Superleggera is the first ever factory motorcycle to be equipped with a carbon fibre frame, swing arm, sub-frame and wheels. In fact the fairing seen on this motorcycle too is made of carbon fibre.

Hiding inside that fairing is a 1285cc, Superquadro, L-twin, desmodromic liquid-cooled engine (most powerful factory built twin-cylinder motorcycle ever!) that belts out an ungodly 215 HP of power and 146 Nm of torque. This engine comes paired to a 6-speed gearbox equipped with Ducati Quick Shift.

With great power comes great responsibility they say, but in case of a motorcycle like this, with great power comes a great package of electronics. The Ducati 1299 Superleggera comes with Ducati Power Launch (DPL) and is the first ever Ducati motorcycle to feature the DPL. Also on offer are features like Engine Brake Control (EBC), Ducati Slide Control (DSC) and Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO).

The Bosch Cornering ABS system ensures superior braking and keeps the rider’s back safe. The Ducati 1299 Superleggera is suspended via a fully adjustable 43 mm up-side down Ohlins fork upfront and a single Ohlins shock with titanium spring at the rear. Braking duties are taken care of by twin 330 mm semi-floating discs with Brembocalipers and a single 245 mm disc at the rear.

The Ducati 1299 Superleggera is delivered with a track kit that includes a complete titanium Akrapovic racing exhaust, racing screen, plate holder removal kit and mirror replacement plugs.

With only 500 units of the 1299 Superleggera being made by Ducati and all being already sold out, Vikram Oberoi is definitely a lucky chap, to have got his hands on what is the most exotic superbike in the world. Costing almost as much as a Mercedes S-Class, the bike is priced in India at Rs. 1,12,20,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi)
